Flying Dragons Claim 1st Runner-up Spot in UCCL Championship Game 2

Tanauan, Batangas – The Guang Ming College (GMC) Flying Dragons delivered a high intensity performance during Game 2 of the United Collegiate Championship League (UCCL) held on December 6, 2025, at the Tanauan Sports Arena. The championship matchup featured two formidable contenders – GMC and Olivarez College, the defending UCCL Season 18 champions – in a thrilling showdown that kept the crowd on edge until the final seconds.

The Flying Dragons opened the championship match with their starting five: Parreñas, Lozada, Arnejo, Jamias, and Ihebem, maintaining composure as Olivarez College took an early lead at the end of the first quarter, 16-22. By halftime, GMC continued to keep the gap close, concluding the second quarter at 34-39. Momentum briefly shifted in the third quarter when GMC surged ahead at the 7:36 mark, securing a four-point advantage through strong ball movement and consistent scoring. However, Olivarez regained control and closed the third quarter ahead at 50-57.

The final quarter showcased the Flying Dragons’ resilience as they pushed aggressively to overturn the lead. The last two minutes of the game were marked by fast-paced plays and heightened intensity, with GMC narrowing the score to 68-70with just 7.7 seconds remaining – igniting excitement across the venue. Despite their determined rally, the Flying Dragons were unable to convert in the final possession, concluding the championship match with a final score of 68-72 in favor of Olivarez College.

GMC proudly secured the First Runner-Up title for UCCL 2025, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and competitive spirit throughout the season. Adding to the team’s achievement, Kurt Lactaotao and Joshua Jamias were recognized as part of the highly coveted Mythical Five, honoring their outstanding performance and contributions to the league.

Building on a strong UCCL campaign, The Flying Dragons will now get ready and join another elite collegiate basketball competition in January, The Pinoyliga Cup – where they will compete against top collegiate players from UAAP- and NCAA-affiliated teams. This upcoming league will significantly contribute to their development and game readiness as they prepare for the coming BLIA Cup next year.

Beyond the final score, the championship game served as a powerful display of the Flying Dragons’ athletic excellence, resilience, and competitive maturity. It likewise underscored Guang Ming College’s unwavering commitment to sportsmanship, discipline, and holistic student development-principles that continue to guide the College in nurturing athletes who excel both on the court and beyond.
